Nearly the hottest season for us above the equator now. Here on O’ahu this summer has been friendly with cooling rains that keep the higher temperatures from feeling harsh. The trade winds have a consistent cooling effect and so I get a chance to wear cute outfits even in the season I’d prefer to be nude with sunglasses.

The volcano, Kīlauea, erupted with a new caldera forming and expelling gases composed of sulphur dioxide. The wind is blowing from the south to the north and there are clouds of sulphur gas pouring over the Hawaiian archipelago and this is called vog. Volcanic fog. For me the experience is marked by painful breathing, deep coughing, watering eyes, tingling sinuses, and fatigue. These symptoms lead to a really sour disposition and I’m thankful for y’all here helping me get off to sagging pics in this strangely sunny and suddenly austere place.
