  1. Macs do last a long time. I had my last PowerBook G4 for 8 Year until I got my new one. Plus I only re-loaded the OS twice in the 8 years I owned it. With my Windows PCs it was like every 6 months. The nice thing about the new visualization technology is that if you need to run windows only applications you can get virtuilization software, like VMWare Fusion (http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/overview.html, not free) or Oriacle's VirtualBox (free download: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads). But you need to have licenses for all Operating Systems that require them.
  2. I have a Macbook pro and love it, it is loaded so it was a bit pricy, but I plan on keeping it a long time. There was a TV movie that came out in 1999 called " Pirates of Silicon Valley", it shows how both Apple and Microsoft started. It's interesting.
